Meet Aimee

I was born and raised in Wheatley, Ontario, a small fishing village in the heart of Southwestern Ontario. I attended Wheatley Area Public School and then graduated a proud Leamington Lion from Leamington District Secondary School. I was accepted at the University of Western Ontario where I obtained my Honours Literature, History and French degrees before venturing to the University of Windsor to complete my Law School degree with a focus on Family Law. It was during my time at the University of Windsor that politics became a central role in my life and I have been actively involved since then. Most of my involvement has been at the federal level however, I believe that the municipal level of government is where one is able to make the most significant impact on our local communities.

My family is everything to me. I am the proud mom of Micah, Noah, Mateah and Nataliah and wife of George Egglezos, a teacher with the GECDSB. George has been teaching with the board for the past 20 years and is the Head of Business at Leamington District Secondary School. My sister and brother-in-law are also teachers and school related issues are often topics of discussion. Education plays a central role in my family and as such I became interested in running as Candidate for English School Board Trustee for Leamington and Pelee Island.

I care about those in our community. Four years ago I co-founded an organization named Little Hands Kids for a Cause. This organization assists families in the Windsor-Essex county area whose children are battling life-threatening illnesses. We have been able to raise over $100 000 and assist over 100 local families with expenses incurred from their childrens' medical conditions. What makes Little Hands unique is that we involve youth in all aspects of what we do as we believe that teaching compassion to the young, builds caring and empathetic adults. This voluntary position has allowed me to foster relationships with students, principals and community groups across Windsor and Essex county. I have seen the power that children have when they set their minds to achieving a goal and therefore, we should enable our youth to make positive impacts in their schools and communities at large.

I believe that local schools are the hearts of our communities and therefore should reflect the values that we hold close. It is imperative that the Board and Trustees be representatives of the diverse student population and that the issues pertinent to families need to be voiced and defended. The pupils attending our schools must be the priority and as such, we have to ensure that all students have the necessary support and vital tools to learn. Teachers, administrators and local representatives need to work together so that the Ontario Student Success Strategies are met and the community partnerships that foster programs such as, OYAP, SHSM and Dual Credits, are strengthened. Communication between families, schools, local representatives and the Board must improve so that we are all working towards a common goal - the betterment of each and every student within the Board. Our schools should also mirror the changing needs of our society and environment. Programs to introduce eco-friendly measures within our schools should be supported and promoted. The focus on mental health must increase and compassionate and timely support needs to be readily available to all students, teachers and parents. Our schools must have the infrastructure, technology and ability to meet the demands of our ever-changing society and to provide our students with a relevant and comprehensive education to prepare them for what lies ahead.

I promise to be your voice. I will work with principals, teachers, parent councils, students and families, to ensure that your concerns are heard. As your Trustee, I will be readily available to listen and more importantly to act, to defend your interests and make your children a priority.

I look forward to your support in the upcoming election.
